Octomedia has been in publication since 1971 and is Australia’s largest and oldest retail trade publication with daily digital newsletters, websites, news briefs and more. We provide essential knowledge and insight into the trends, issues and events of importance to the retail industry. The bi-monthly magazine attracts quality columnists who are experts in their field. Inside Retail is well known throughout the industry for providing quality, independent journalism, entertaining stories and influential opinions on important issues. Based in Sydney our team includes writers, editors, designers, publishers and sales specialists who share a love of publishing. With an eye on editorial excellence we also achieve great commercial values. Many of our titles are monetised through advertising, subscription and product sales programs.

History of the group
Octomedia was founded in 2003 following the buyout of the Inside Retailing and Foodweek titles by its two editors from long time owner, Huntley’s Publications. Foodweek was established in the 1960s as a weekly, subscription-based trade publication for the FMCG, grocery, and liquor industries. Inside Retail followed in the 1970s as a weekly trade publication and sister brand, focusing on the retail industry as a whole. These two iconic brands grew in readership over the years, with Inside Retailing changing its name to Inside Retail in 2011. In 2009, following consolidation of both suppliers and retailers in the FMCG and grocery and liquor markets, Foodweek was retired.
Since its founding 46 years ago, Inside Retail’s original product, now known as Inside Retail PREMIUM, has migrated from soft copy to online. In the early 2000s Inside Retail launched online, with a daily newsbrief following soon after. In 2005 the first issue of Inside Retail Magazine, a bi-monthly features-based glossy magazine, was published.
In addition to Inside Retail’s three staple products, Octomedia, also publishes a variety of other publications including the Australian Retail Chain Directory, and the Australian Retail Outlook – a forward looking publication featuring predictions for retail in the year ahead.
An Asian-based sister site to Inside Retail, InsideRetail.Asia, launched in 2010, generating news for the fast growing Asian retail economy, and Inside Shopper, a weekly newsbrief focusing on shopper marketing, the path to purchase, and shopper behaviours came to life in 2013 – this was then transformed into a revived Foodweek and Inside Shopper experience known as InsideFMCG.
